The Perfect Name were a British alternative rock band from Moston, Greater Manchester. Formed in 1984 under another name (the first in a long list of throwaway names), the band's original line-up was Derek Ham on lead vocals, Lee Stanley on Drums, and Peter Crossley on Guitar. By 1987 the band had found their identity as The Perfect Name, with line up Derek Ham on lead vocals, Lee Stanley on Lead Guitar, Joseph Cribbin on Guitar, Peter Tansey on Bass Guitar and Steve Waters on drums. Manager Paul Ralphs. The band had a strong following in Manchester, regularly selling out venues and also gigging with local friends Northside (band), amongst other up-coming Manchester bands. In 1990 the band were the support act on The Charlatans UK tour, resulting in a promised signing to London Records by A&R giant, Dave Ambrose (the man who signed The Sex Pistols and Duran Duran). Steve Waters was quickly replaced by drummer Bernard Vandenberg in order to strengthen the line-up, and because of long-standing differences. Shaun Ryder of Happy Mondays asked to produce their first single "If". A string of bad luck followed and the band split in 1993. == References == 'And God Created Manchester', Sarah Champion
